Ryan began working for Steve Martin Management in 1995 as a bartender and assistant restaurant manager for the company's Wayfarer Restaurant and Lounge, where he quickly took to the Steve Martin Management hospitality philosophy. The late Steve Martin was the founder and visionary of Steve Martin Management Company -- with restaurants and hotels in Cannon Beach and in The Dalles, Oregon. Ryan's wife Stephanie, for whom the company's world-class Stephanie Inn is named, is the daughter of Steve and Jan Martin.
Ryan's expertise in technology and hospitality, combined with his interests in planning and creative processes, led him to the position of Advertising Manager for Martin Hospitality. In 2001, he rose to the position of Executive Vice President, learning all the phases of the business. After Steve Martin lost his battle with cancer, Ryan took over as President of Martin Hospitality.
As President of Martin Hospitality, Ryan says one of his biggest responsibilities is keeping the vision for the company's future alive and moving forward. He is also diligent in keeping the company's philosophies intact. "The company's mission is to provide superb hospitality management services," he explains. The company motto, "We Create Great Memories!" is instilled in every aspect of business. All employees, from housekeepers, to maintenance workers, wait staff, concierge, chefs and management strive to create experiences that exceed guest's expectations and provide lasting impressions.
According to Ryan, the most rewarding part of his job is being able to create great memories for people. "It starts with a vision,” he explains. “You find the right location, create the atmosphere you want and hire a staff that understands the great experience you want to create for the guest. When this happens, it is very rewarding."November 2, 2009
