Cross the Word to Cross the World Contest

January 14, 2011

Cross the Word to Cross the World

A year ago, we asked our residents in Oregon and Southwest Washington to wax poetic for the chance to win a trip for two to Amsterdam or Tokyo. This year, we’re stepping up the challenge and want to see your crossword skills in action! Starting today at 12pm noon, follow the clues to solve the puzzle for the chance to win a trip for two to the land of tulips, art and windmills or to sushi, designer fashion and shinto shrines. Enter the contest here.

Which destination would you choose?

Update 2/16/2011: Contestants will have to save their puzzle submissions and return each week to complete the four new clues. On February 18, the last four clues will be released and contestants will be able to select the “Submit entry” button. All completed puzzles must be submitted by 12pm Monday, February 21 to be eligible for the grand prize.

Tokyo it would be. I am fascinated by the Japanese culture and the way they are able to hold on to their deep roots and cultures but yet, be so technologically futuristic. The Japanese garden in Portland is one of my favorite spots and this has definitely sparked my eagerness to visit the land of the rising sun.

The pop up that you are seeing is how to access the contest. You will need to create a login, and then you can play. Use the username and login each week to fill your crossword, and you’ll be in the running for a nonstop trip for two to Amsterdam or Tokyo. Best of luck!

Using the spellings provided by Delta, the answers to the Tokyo fish market (Tsukiji) and the Amsterdam museum square (Rijksmuseum) the second letter of Tsukiji and the third letter of Rijksmuseum need to be the same in order for the crossword puzzle solved correctly. Obviously, that is not possible since this would require the letters “s” and “j” to be the same or interchangeable. If this is any indication as to the attention to detail Delta practices in their flight operations, we should all be very afraid.

Thanks for your note, Ryan, but (spoiler alert, crossword players) “Rijksmuseum” is not the correct word for #1 down. Look through the blog post again to find the correct answer: http://iflynonstop.com/destinations/the-honeymoon-dreams-are-made-of/.

Allison, shouldn’t have corrected Ryan ;) his mistake would have thinned down the competition for the rest of us who are happy with the attention to detail Delta practices.

Is there contact information for the Committee? I would LOVE to help publicize “I Love Nonstop” and its abilities to serve the region.

My wife is in Guangzhou, China, and, so, the nonstop flights to Tokyo are a definite benefit to me every few months, when I go to visit her!

I’d love to help “spread the word” of the GREAT services! Is there somewhere to send something or someone that I can talk to, so that I can help?

    Thanks!
    – Steve K.
