La Folle Journée au Japon

La Folle Journee is a music festival that originated in 1995 in Nantes, a port town in the northwest of France. The event aims to present world-class performances of classical music, which is generally viewed as formal entertainment, in a more relaxed, casual atmosphere for reasonable fees. Comprised of a number of shorter programs, the event is designed to allow visitors to enjoy a variety of different performances of their choice. First held in Japan in 2005, the event has already become a favorite event during the Golden Week holiday in Tokyo, attracting as many as 700,000 fans last year. Featured programs include works of Tchaikovsky, Dvorak Ravel, and many other popular pieces, which may have been heard in TV dramas, commercials, and movies.
