From Art Galleries to Chicken and Rice, International Tourism Boosts Local Industry
What a destination! Over the past 3 years that I have worked with Travel Portland, I never cease to be amazed by this city’s pride and commitment to the high quality tourist experience for domestic and international visitors. The success of the tourism industry is largely dependent on the success of the city’s transportation systems. Portland is fortunate to have multiple access points from train and bus to light rail, and, of course, the airport. Read more »

A Travel Writer’s Take on Amsterdam
I have one of those jobs that allows me to live anywhere. It also affords me the chance to explore the rest of the world when I’m gone. I’m a freelance travel writer, and I moved to Portland in summer of 2007. I’d been living happily in New Mexico up until that time but felt compelled to try something new, and considered a number of great cities. Read more »

Support Nonstop Service for a Better Economy
The big storms this winter that shut down East Coast airports provided a great reminder of the importance of nonstop flights out of Portland. My young daughter is a great traveler but long delays in strange crowded airports are not fun for anybody in our family. Direct travel is also a great time saver. As someone who tries to eke every single minute out of every single day, I really appreciate the benefits of nonstop travel; as the Chairman of Multnomah County, I appreciate the good jobs and the accompanying vitality that international air service brings to our community. Keep Portland’s Competitive Edge
As a business development manager for one of the leading travel management companies in Portland, I see on a daily basis the impact direct flights to Europe and Asia have on my business and on Oregon’s economy.
These flights are important because they allow me to provide clients with diverse options, and they help companies save time and money — this is key to a successful business. Read more »

Nonstops Relax Nike Golf Developer
As Nike Golf’s ball research and development director, I fly 100,000-plus miles per year. Over the last 10 years I have maintained an average of six international trips a year, visiting manufacturing partners in Asia and golfers on the various golf courses in the world. One would assume that the opportunity to visit the greatest golf courses would coincide with actually playing an occasional round. However, this is not the case. I’m quite confident that I have the record for visiting the most world’s top 100 greatest golf courses without even playing.

Losing Nonstop Flights Affects Local Business
Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA), headquartered in Portland, represents the German automotive giant’s global truck brands Freightliner, Western Star, and Detroit Diesel. As a member of the world’s largest producer of commercial trucks, our staff is networked with Daimler colleagues across Europe and Asia. Our professionals are responsible for engineering, purchasing, and information technology. Our senior executives from both sides of the Atlantic comprise a large portion of the business class passengers on the now-suspended Lufthansa service. Read more »

Bringing Big Business to Portland
Hey, Port of Portland! Thank you for attracting nonstop service from PDX to both Asia and Europe! It makes a huge difference in SO many ways!
Here are some personal examples of why I think this service is so significant to Portland:
First, I have helped to drive business to this region for almost 40 years. The companies we attract all require essential elements to consider this as a relocation city. Without exception, they all travel internationally and require nonstop flights to Asia and Europe. Oregon is among the most international trade-dependent states in the U.S., and conditions would be worse here without those flights. Read more »

There and Back Again, A Cycling Tale
People who know me know that cycling is my passion. I love Portland, in part, because so many others here share that passion. And I admire cities like Amsterdam and Copenhagen for the same reason. Cycling is also how I make my living, and for both business and personal reasons, I’ve traveled overseas many times. My most comfortable flights have been flying nonstop out of PDX. Read more »

Precious Cargo to AMS and TYO
International travel typically brings to mind a sense of adventure and excitement. However, one of the hardest parts of a trip abroad is sitting on an airplane for eight or 12 hours. I have had the pleasure of traveling to Tokyo and Amsterdam several times, and the first piece of advice I would give to anyone contemplating one of these trips is to “definitely take the nonstop flight on Delta!” Traveling on Delta makes that very long plane ride just a little bit easier. In addition, the service is always outstanding and makes you feel at home, even when you are many miles from home. Read more »

Showing Off Oregon’s Beach Side
Cannon Beach, Oregon is truly a destination to be seen by travelers from all over the world and thanks to nonstop flights from Europe and Asia to Portland, the word is out. In the last year our community has been fortunate enough to host travel media from Germany, France, Japan and the United Kingdom. We are seeing more and more European travelers in our hotels and restaurants. Having the opportunity to visit with these folks, show them around and collect feedback about their experiences has been of great value to our businesses and local community. Read more »
